NYE Outfit Inspo!

NYE 2014

So ladies, the New Year is literally right around the corner! Seriously where did the time go? My favorite part about New Years, is most definitely the fashion and sparkle! I'm a sucker for sparkle. This year I'm keeping a pretty low profile for NYE, and just staying in with the family. If any of you are like me, I'm putting my outfit together at the last minute! I put together a little "outfit inspo" to help out with your NYE looks this year. I always think it's bad to bring in the New Year unfashionably dressed, and it sets the tone for what kind of year I'm going to have. Superstitious or silly? Whatever it may be, check out some of my favorite 2014 NYE looks!

Now...

If your looking to bring in the New Year boldy, I'd go with an exquisite gold sequin dress. You can always spot a gold dress out of a crowd other colors, and the sequins just makes it even better!

Outfit Inspiration One . Gold Sequin Dress. Leopard Pumps. Gold Clutch (preferably black undertone.Cranberry or Plum Lip + Nails

Now you say you want to bring in the New Year in a chic way? I'd go for the sequin black dress. Classy enough to still be considered a LBD, yet still crazy sexy, especially with the hints of red everywhere, and a confidant shoe!
Outfit Inspiration Two. Black Sequin Dress . Spiked Red Bottoms . Gladiator Clutch . Blood Red Lip

What's your fav NYE look?

Happy Holidays!!!

Gosh it's been so long since my last post! The holiday season is probably the busiest time of the year for me, with traveling, work, dinner parties...the list goes on. I'm so glad I've finally found the time to actually sit down and post! So what's been up? I think Christmas has to be my second favorite holiday, my birthday being first of course! ( Which just so happens to be in a few weeks!) You guys know me, I'm a "traditional" kind of girl, and I think it's important to not only create new traditions, but keep up with the old ones. Growing up my family always had a annual Holiday Cookie Bake the weekend before Christmas. I remember all of my little cousins would come over, and we'd bake until our little fingers came off. It was such a fun and exciting experience, but once we got older, everyone kind of drifted off into their own things. This year I was not having it! I called my girls, and made plans for my very first annual Holiday Cookie Bake, thrown by yours truly of course. Let me say, the turnout was great! It was about 10 of us, and everyone brought their fav cookie mix, along with a baking sheet, and once the wine was open, we were baking! We had such a good time, and it was so good catching up with each of them, seeing as though all of us have pretty hectic schedules. It was really nice spending time with each of them, right before the holiday. Take a peek!

This table was packed when everyone arrived with their dough, and the bake started. We started putting cookies on TV tables!

Jackpot!

Prima and Prima

In the end we had Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Peppermint Whoopie Pie's, White Chocolate Macaroons, Peanut Butter Cookies, Sugar Cookies, Chocolate Truffles, and Peppermint Mocha's.

Delish!

My Good Mornin' Muffin! Oatmeal Blueberry Muffins

Is it wrong that I'm actually eating one of these right now while posting? Haha! These puppies are so good, and not to mention super healthy! I'm a sweet addict, and working in the corporate world, there are always donuts, brownies, bagels, muffins, cookies, everything floating around the office somewhere. I find it so hard to stay on track with my healthy lifestyle, when there is pretty much free food everywhere you turn. Not just some McDonald's were talking about here...but really good catered food! But not to worry, I've found this recipe a long time ago via Skinnytaste , and completely forgot I saved it! I find that I need something that's healthy, but something I can also grab and go because I'm on the move so much, yet still caters to my "sweet" liking. : )

Good Mornin Muffin! Oatmeal Blueberry Muffins

Serving Size: 1 Muffin ( 127 Calories)
  • 3/4 cups Quaker quick oatmeal
  • 1/2cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • Olive Oil Spray ( I used PAM)

Directions:

-Preheat oven to 400°.
-Line a muffin tin with liners and lightly spray with olive oil.
-Place oats in a food processor and pulse for a few seconds.
-Soak oats in milk for about 30 minutes.  (Oats will soak up milk, will look goey and thick when finished)
-In a medium bowl combine brown sugar, sugar, vanilla, egg whites, oil and mix until combined.
-In a third bowl combine whole wheat flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and whisk to combine.
-Combine oats and milk with sugar, with egg mixture and mix well. Slowly add in the dry ingredients and mix until just incorporated. Fold in blueberries.
-Spoon into the muffin tin and bake for 22-24 minutes.

Boom!

The recipe called for unsweetened applesauce, but low and behold I forgot to buy it while shopping for my ingredients at the grocery store. But I Googled substitutes, and turns out you just need to up the ante on the whatever "sweetener" your using. I wanted to still keep the recipe low cal, and healthy, so I just used more blue berries : )

Thanks Gina for this super breakfast/snack option, that's super good, but still healthy!

Oh Monday...

Ahh..Monday...we meet again : ) Happy Monday to all you Queen Bee's out there, that are taking charge, and seizing the day! This past week I've been so bogged down with everything it seems like, today I just have to sit and reflect for a bit. I read a quote a few months ago that read, "You and Beyonce have the same number of hours in a day. Step it up." Man did that sit with me! For one, I am am a die hard fan of B, and if anything she has been one of my role models. She has a drive, and a work ethic like no other, and essentially that quote is true! Although, I don't make nearly an inch of what she does, I don't have a team of advisers, marketing strategist, nor a glam squad...but I take that quote at face value. Like the one above. I may be tired sometimes, and lazy, or whatever, but if Beyonce can make her own empire by starting her own path, and leading her own life..I, WE , can too.

Whether its at your workplace, being a stay at home mom wanting to start her own business, or starting your own non profit organization, you can do it! You just have to do it! Be the woman you want to see, the kind of woman you want to believe in.

Oh Monday...: )

Fall Favorites : ♕ Apple Picking ♕

"The apple never falls too far from the tree."

Gah! It's seriously been too long since my last post! Let's just say, being busy is an understatement. With work, and volunteering, not to mention getting adjusted to this new time change, has really set me back. But! I'm super glad the holidays are approaching, and I have some great upcoming post for you all! Did I mention it's FALL?! Ah! Fall has to be one of my most favorite times of the year. Growing up as a kid, my Dad was BIG on fall traditions, like apple pie baking, pumpkin picking, burning leaves, apple cider parties, and my absolute favorite, apple picking! My dad took me to my ver first apple orchard when I was 6. I remember we drove all the way to Coloma, Michigan with my uncle, and there was this HUGE orchard, that had acres, and acres of apple trees that we could climb and pick produce from. Ever since then I've been apple picking each year during the fall, and I always have the best time! My dad recently moved to Texas, and I still live here in Chicago, so we couldn't go to Michigan, but thankfully I was still able to keep the tradition alive. My girlfriends and I found this cute little apple orchard in Indiana, County Line Orchards, and had the time of our lives! Take a look!

The tractor rides are my favorite part, (besides the freshly baked apple pies they sell in the market on the way out). The tractors picked us up and dropped us off at the different activity spots in the orchard.

The weather was fabulous! A little chilly, but not too cold!

Isn't this the cutest place! Inside there were tons of fresh preservatives, seasonings, donuts, apple pies, cider, the whole nine! We almost had to make two trips to the car because we had so much stuff!

I know Thanksgiving is approaching, what are some of your favorite Fall traditions? I will be traveling soon for the holidays to spend time with my dad and brothers, so I'm uber excited! Stay tuned for more of my fall favorites Queens!

We have the best skyline...Michigan Ave....the Blackhawks...Buckingham Fountain..State Street...Derrick Rose back on the court! Yes! The Bulls baby! Was I bragging? Absolutely. I love Chicago...the only place you can get every season in one week! Lol.
My girlfriend scored tickets to see the Bulls play last night, and she graciously asked me to go with!  Who would turn Bulls tickets down? Ladies it was so much fun! Not to mention we had some really great seats! Have you ever seen the Bulls play? I recommend buying tickets next time your in Chicago. A little pricey, but definitely worth the bucks! Here are some shots from last nights game.

Napple Tarts

Hey girl hey! Happy Monday! This past weekend my girlfriend Jackie from college paid me a sweet little visit. And oh was it sweet! Along with her came a bottle of Cupcake Moscato D'Asti, which by the way was so tasty. I'm not a Moscato drinker, they tend to be too sweet...but it actually ended up being really good! In college we were big on sweets, and always found a stash somewhere in the residence halls when the dining halls closed lol! I wanted to bake her something simple, yet sweet. Something that wouldn't take too long, but was super delicious. I found this recipe while browsing Eat Yourself Skinny. Kelly always has some really good recipes that I'm hashing out in my kitchen! You can find the recipe here. I added to the recipe and changed it around a little bit. Here's to your sweet tooth!

Napple Tarts

  • 1 Box of Phyllo dough

  • 1 (20 oz) can pineapple chunks, drained (or fresh pineapple)

  •  2 Tbsp light butter

  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar

  • 2 Tbsp. Peach Snapple

  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

  • Lite Reddi-Wip, for topping

Instructions

1. Thaw your dough for 2 to 3 hours in the fridge.  The longer your phyllo thaws, the better your cups. You can buy these pre-made, but I opted to make my own. After thawing,  cut your sheets in fours. This saves dough for later use, and makes them smaller to use as cups.
2.  Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease your muffin tin. My muffin tin only holds six, but that’s all needed.

3. Lightly brush melted butter on each sheet before placing them into the muffin tin cups.  This doesn’t have to be perfect, I just lightly brushed each of my sheets with a little butter for a little crunch. This also makes the cups a beautiful brown color.

4. Place 7 to 10 sheets in each muffin tin cup.  You want them thick enough, so that the pineapple juice does not leak through once they are filled. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.

5. Melt butter in a skillet and pour in drained pineapple chunks. Stir in all ingredients brown sugar, cinnamon, and Snapple juice. Saute pineapple for about 5 to 6 minutes, breaking apart the chunks, until caramelized.

This next step depends on your preference.

6. You can either let the pineapple mix cool down for about 30 mins. in the fridge. Spooning the mix into the dough cups right away made the bottom of my cups really soggy because of the moisture and heat from the pineapple mix. After about 10 minutes the entire cup had fallen apart. ( So I strongly recommend cooling first).

But, they tasted great warm and right out of the oven. Once your cups are each filled, top with Reddi-Wip and enjoy!

Lushin for LUSH!!!

Hey Queenbees!

So I have totally conformed myself into a LUSH fanatic! I am in love with their products, and I find myself in Macy’s every Friday picking up my stash! LUSH is a brand that sells fresh handmade cosmetics. They make everything from lip scrubs, body conditioners, natural hair essentials, and my favorite..bath bombs! These products smell so good, and since they are all natural they are good for the skin. All ingredients added in them, you can pronounce, and it’s definitely QueenBee budget-friendly! Here's what I bought:

LUSH only buys ingredients from companies that do not test on animals, and are firm believers in testing on humans. Hence the ever so popular, and recyclable bag.

Recently I only purchased a few bath bomb products, and a bubble bar. They are listed here from left to right. 1. Big Blue 2. Twilight 3. Big Blue ( Bottom) 4. Amandopondo (Bubble Bar)  5. Butterball

Ladies all LUSH products have ingredients in them that stimulate the skin. Butterball (5) is used for mostly dry skin, and contains Cocoa Butter, Vanilla, and Ylang Ylang oil.

This past summer I've only been addicted to Big Blue and the Amandopondo Bubble Bar. Basically you just run a bath, and toss one of these bombs in, and surprise! Each LUSH bath bomb does something different to your bath water! In the Big Blue tiny particles of Arame Seaweed disperse into the water, softening the surface, and releasing it's nutrients. Not to mention your bath water turns into a perfect, Mediterranean blue. : )

I have comitted myself to trying out all of the LUSH products, will be doing a full review on LUSH Cosmetics very soon!

Let's Talk: ♛ First Kisses ♛

Aahh..the first kiss. Do you remember yours? Was it everything you imagined? Or was it something you’re still trying to forget? Your first kiss ever…or the first kiss you have with the one you love? My very first kiss was…not so magical? I was fashioned to believe that like in movies, I would be swept away after the first kiss. It would be soft, and with each peck I’d fall deeper and deeper in love with him. Cut the music! Let’s just say my foot didn’t pop, no music played, and I didn’t have Judd Nelson walking through a football field thrusting his fist in the air knowing that he got me! (I told you ladies I watch movies) Reality had me on a date with a football player at the local movie theatre. He wasn’t the star of the team…but he was handsomely tall. And though he didn’t play too much, he had the sweetest smile. I don’t even remember the movie we went to see  due to the fact that I was so nervous and my oxygen levels were low. Two hours prior I had practiced, yes I practiced. On anything clean that I could practice on! It was so not the right time, nor mood, and he just leaned over, grabbed my face and kissed me. Now you see…I’m a thinker. My mind never stops. So in that moment…all I could think about was how this definitely didn’t go as practiced, and my foot wouldn’t be popping off this sticky, infested floor. My First Kiss and I didn’t last very long. We are actually good friends! He is still handsomely tall, and tons of girls ended up falling for his sweet smile:)  Ehh….to the good ol’ days.

Tell me about your first kiss! Was it magical? Did your foot pop? Or to those Queen Bee’s  that realized that their first kiss, ended up being their last first? Ha! Happy Tuesday Queen Bee’s! And remember to always Be Fierce, Be Queen, and Be You!
