Christmas in 3...2..1

It's Christmas!!!

Well...in like a day. :) So excited around this time of year. I haven't been blogging much but I've been making sure to spend quality time with the ones I love. As you know I come from a HUGE family, and our Christmas tradition is going over one of my aunts house (which is the house my mom grew up in, and raised my big brother) and it's so many of us, you literally have to find a spot to sit. But we get together, we blast the Christmas tunes, we exchange gifts, we eat until our faces fall off...we laugh and love madly on one another, and this happens to be my most favorite Christmas tradition. Because my family is so massive, everyone usually brings a dish, and small gifts that can be used by anyone. We sometimes play games, and the gifts are prizes, or we all just start passing the out to whomever has the empty hands to take them. I'm most looking forward to the fresh baked cookies my aunt makes for each family. She usually starts days in advance to bake them, and have them all ready by Christmas Eve!

One thing that tends to happen every year, is this conversation I have with my dad about the "true meaning" of Christmas. Each year I get older, I begin to realize this same lecture he gives me every year has significant weight to it.  Everyone that knows me, knows I love presents, and it's not about the shoes, or the clothes, or the jewelry...it's not about gifts at all! It's about spending time with the people you love, hugging the little ones tight because it's so magical for them, and being the light for others. It's about giving to those who can't necessarily give back to you. As I get older I realize the things I wan't most, you can't buy for Christmas. I am truly just happy seeing other people happy, and knowing in my heart that I helped make it happen. So as we enter into yet another Christmas holiday, who cares what you got your mom, or your dad. Who cares what your friend will think of your gift. Hug them, love them, kiss them...because that's what matters most.

Purple Reign

Didn't I say "Tis the Season to Slay"? Looooved this look from Windsor store and felt like such a Queen in this dress. I don't own very many dark colors, nor do I ever venture out much and do colored lips with my looks. But honey...when I say I was feeling myself? I had SO much fun shooting this look. I stated in my last post that I was falling in love with fabrics that have lots of movement, and can't you tell?! This look is perfect for that holiday party you're going to, whether that be at an event thrown by friends, or a super special black tie office Christmas party! I'm all about standing out in a crowd, and not doing the norm so I try and shy away from wearing the typical colors to holiday partys like, reds, greens, and sparkles. Although they are gorgeous, and beautiful...I always try and push to do something different. I opted for a beautiful plum dress...perfect for this time of year, and dazzling to say the least.

You can shop my look below! Be sure to share your pics with me, and of course do a spin for me on the dance floor!

Early Bird Gift Guide!

Ahh!! It's that time of year!! As December has already found itself upon us, I wanted to get up an "Early Bird Gift Guide" for those of you who are like me, and wan't to get most of your Christmas shopping done before the week of Christmas when everyone in the entire world is shopping. I hate shopping when there are 1000 people in the store, I instantly get stressed because I feel like I can't take my time and focus on what I really want to look for. This might be a major reason I shop online 90% of the time. :) I do however enjoy grabbing a cup of Starbucks, and going with others to shop, and take pride in the fact that I've checked everyone off my shopping list, and can simply enjoy simply being in the atmosphere of the Christmas holiday season. Lucky for you I gathered a major list of gift ideas, for everyone in your family  - before all the deals hit, so you can be fully prepared for checkout!

Goodbye November

How was everyone's Thanksgiving?! Is the time flying or what? I can't believe it's already December.  I ate entirely too much over the Thanksgiving holiday, but it was beautiful to say the least. For those that know me personally know that I come from 2 very large families. My dad and brothers flew in from Texas, and we had Thanksgiving dinner at my grandmas. My family members have moved all over the U.S. so I had aunts/uncles and cousins coming in from Florida, Pittsburgh, Detroit, New York...I mean I could go forever. Because everyone lives so far we don't get together on my dad's side as much but everyone came home for this Thanksgiving and it was such a treat. I literally ate my weight in food. We had 3 turkeys, 4 hams, homemade macaroni, greens, dressing (black people's stuffing :) ) spaghetti, ribs and I'm probably missing so much more! For dessert we had several sweet potato pies going, strawberry cheesecake, chocolate cheesecake, ice cream cake, apple cobbler, peach cobbler...I'm not kidding when I say I can keep going. :) It was so much fun though, we laughed until we cried, we played games, took countless selfies, and meaningful conversations, and most of all loved so hard on one another for the holiday.

So since we are now officially within the holiday season...'tis the season to slay honey! Sharing my favorite fall look with you guys. These thigh high boots have made several appearances on this blog...but the weather has been so nice here in the Chi, and I'm rocking these as much as I can before they have to be put up until next year. :) I paired my fave boots with this cute babydoll dress from Lulus. Never thought I could pull off a babydoll dress because I have wider hips, and shorter flowy dresses such as these make me look frumpy and the hem is super high. However when paired with some over the knee/thigh highs such as mine...they really elongate the body, and really gives the babydoll dress a different look! This dress was so cute, and it had bell sleeves! If you haven't already noticed, I'm getting into fabrics that move with my body, and not so much the tight/fitted looks. They just make me feel good. :)

I've been missing in action on social media, but I'm back! I wanted to be completely present when I was with my family over the holiday, and enjoy every second with them. :)

Kept it super casual today running around doing last minute errands for the holidays this week. I kept my look simple with my fave pair of boyfriend jeans, and casual black tee, and paired them with this super cute bomber from Windsor for under $50! Also, I've been getting a lot of compliments on my new winter hat, which look just like Mickey ears, and I absolutely love it! My hat is from Akira! You can read all about my recent shopping experience at Akira in my previous post

Are you ready for Thanksgiving? I'm keeping the look casual this year, aka leggings will be worn to accommodate that large food baby I will be sporting come Thursday. :) Shop my look below!

Peace, Love, and Big Blessings to you and your family this Thanksgiving! My dad and little brothers will be in from Texas this week, so I'm really looking forward to spending some time with them. Also, everyone on my mom's side SWEARS they can cook sweet potato pie...but anyone that's tried mine knows there's truly no comparison. Needless to say my uncle has declared war today on Facebook Live, and called me out live, stating that I didn't know what I was doing. This week, tune into my Snapchat as I will be sharing all of my Thanksgiving favorites, AND claiming the family victory of making thee best sweet potato pie. :)

Eat good!

Back At It

Hello friends, good to be back on the blog. I haven't posted in almost 2 weeks now, as I had every intention of getting a post up last week, however with the election my plans had changed. I needed to take a break from social media, and just media in general for a while to gather my thoughts and figure out how I was feeling, before I began putting my thoughts out there for you to read. Last week, I had every intention of this post being about the election, and about how excited I was for our nation, to finally have a woman on the ballot running for president. Needless to say that excitement fizzled, literally as I was typing this post, and watching the election results, and watched my country turn red Tuesday night.

I'm still getting myself together, and coming to terms with how I feel, not only about the recent election, but the incredulous hate that has been a result of this election. I am also enamored by the love, support, and fearlessness of the Americans that did get out and vote, and are standing up for what is right. Who do not sit behind their Facebook statuses, or Instagram comments - that continue to feed hate into this country - but are out doing something about it. Letting their voices be heard, letting their opinions be known, and most of all loving hard on one another because let's be real...this isn't just a black issue anymore.

Like I said, still gathering my thoughts, and will certainly speak on the topic when the time is right for me, because trust me...I do have something to say. But still wanted to get back up and let you know that I'm still here, and this blog post became even more important to me. As it should to you. Not my post in particular, but we can't let this knock us down. God ALWAYS has a plan. You may not know Him, but I do, and let me tell you...He has NEVER left me, nor forsaken me. Even in my darkest moments, He has never failed me, and He will not fail you.

Still feeling good in November...and have a lot to be grateful for! Here's my look for today, entire outfit from my friends at Akira (see previous post). It's still in the mid 60s here so I'm milking this weather for everything it's worth!
